Shortcut remapping lose effect with unknown reason #33770

Closed derekxia1988 closed 6 days ago

derekxia1988 commented 3 months ago

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.82.0

Installation method

PowerToys auto-update

Running as admin

Yes

Area(s) with issue?

Keyboard Manager

Steps to reproduce

  1. Remapping keys: Ctrl(left_ to Alt(left), Alt(left) to Ctrl(left).
  2. Remapping shortcuts: Alt(left) Tab to Ctrl(left) Tab, Ctrl(left) Tab to Alt(left) Tab.

✔️ Expected Behavior

I get used to Mac style keys and shortcuts, so I use alt instead of ctrl in many places, such as copy and paste, but to switch windows is better use alt tab, so I need to remap shortcuts from alt tab to ctrl tab, since ctrl is replaces by alt before.

❌ Actual Behavior

This works fine on last version, but after update to 0.82.0 and after a reboot of computer, it does not work again on most cases, except one scene: when I am setting key remapping or shortcut remapping, the alt tab shortcuts can do the right thing, when I close the remapping gui, I can only use ctrl tab to switch windows.

Other Software

No response

Update: I resolved the issue by rebooting the computer again, but it seems there is a wired bug that only reboot can fix, hope you can find it. No, it's an illusion, the bug remains.

Update: resolved by change ctrl(left) to ctrl, alt(left) to alt. It's so wired, lose effect after a while. And I found win + space, alt + space, ctrl + space shortcut remapping have no effect.

I find out a truth that this bug is not caused by PowerToy update, but Windows update. I tried older version of PowerToy, the bug remains, and I realize that the Windows update today with patch KB5040442, so it must be the problem.

Update: I found that shortcut remapping works after upgraded to 0.82.1, but lose effect after a while(or some other reason I don't know), and the most interesting thing is that it will work again if I lock screen and then unlock! Very wired, but at least there is a workaround.

Have you tried running PowerToys with admin permission? You can find an option in general settings to make it always run with elevated permission.
