add taskbar settings | taskbar location on screen | bottom center configuration option #799

Summary of the new feature/enhancement

Many people are moving to use of 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratio, aka ultrawide and super ultrawide, display setups in lieu of a dual 16:9 aspect ratio monitor setup so as to avoid having a bar down the middle of straight ahead preferred screen real estate.

When using one of these displays i found it causes you to be excessively sitting with head cranked to the left, when using default taskbar settings | taskbar location on screen | bottom. There are hacks out there for using blank fillers to move pinned and actively running application icons on taskbar more to the center of the display but its a hack and doesn't address moving the start button, search box, cortona button, task view controls and the notifications area icons and clock controls to the middle of the screen.

The ask would be to provide a powertoys feature that gives us a taskbar settings | taskbar location on screen | bottom[/top] center option. I suspect many folks would want to use this option as well on standard issue single 16:9 display environments if it feels more natural for them to have everything on the taskbar corralled at the center of the screen versus the left and right sides.

I like the idea and I use two another open-source plugin to archive it like that image The project is here https://github.com/mdhiggins/CenterTaskbar, the project is a .net framework project. I really hope this function can be added into the powertoys I don't know anything about .net or I will try to make a PR :)

BTW, can powertoys add a function let the taskbar translucent just look like in the picture? I using this addon now, it still a opensource project. https://github.com/TranslucentTB/TranslucentTB

For me i typically have a dozen taskbar pinned icons that make up 99% of what i run every day with maybe one or two additional apps i'll start and close from time to time. So using the unlock taskbar | toolbars | new toolbar | point at folder called anything, e.g. "Spacer Toolbar" and then drag it to left side and drag windows tool bar into center before locking it again is working. A store app service that perfectly centered everything automatically and when changes happen would be nice to have.

The translucent toolbar is a nice aesthetics addition as well. I suggest you add request for it to seperate new issue in this git hub repo so it can be tracked separately.

Definitely would be a cool idea, for those interesting in this feature, there's the "TaskbarX" software, that is does a pretty good job doing that (although there's room for improvement).

Other thing that would be cool is if there was an option to open pinned items on taskbar with a double click instead of one. I keep accidentally opening programs (oftentimes heavy on memory programs, such as photoshop and premiere) when actually just wanted to move from one program to another. There was an software called "Taskbar Tweaker", but it stop worked in the most recently windows versions.

Also, closing programs with middle button mouse click would be pretty neat.

Just found out about Windows 11 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh9643c2P6k) and it shows icons and Start menu in the middle. @crutkas are we going to keep an eye on these - and many #TweakUI related issues - for Windows 10?

@myusrn does Win11's center taskbar option solve this for you? /needinfo

Hi @crutkas, thanks for the follow up. Yes windows 11 default centered taskbar solves this issue nicely. I'll close powertoys feature request issue out.
