@jrfnl please, update to https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core/thank-you/runtime-desktop-3.1.10-windows-x64-installer That might solve the problem.
Can we check this dependency on program start or on update check to inform the user?
@htcfreek we do but this is a bug in .NET Core that broke something in a patch release. We will workaround it in 0.31 with https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/8875
@enricogior How can I check which version of .NET is currently installed ? Just looking at some basic info on my system, I get the impression that I'm on 4.x, so in that case, 3.x sounds like a downgrade to me.
@enricogior How can I check which version of .NET is currently installed ?
For the core version (the important one here) you can enter the following on cmd:
dotnet --list-runtimes
@htcfreek Thanks for that info.
Based on that, I'm on version 3.1.10 already, so the dotnet version is not the problem. (not completely surprising as, as I stated above, it's a brand spanking new computer which I've only just started installing).
@jrfnl
can you check the Event Viewer under Windows Logs -> Application
for the Color Picker crash?
Also, open a command prompt and run "%PROGRAMFILES%\PowerToys\Tools\BugReportTool.exe"
(the double quotes are important) that will create a zip file on you desktop named like this PowerToysReport_2021-01-04-12-02-08.zip
@enricogior Done. Would you like me to paste the details and the zip here ? or is there anywhere else I should upload them ?
Re: Event Viewer: do you only want the details for the actual Error events or also the Information events just before/after ?
@jrfnl just the details for the actual error. You can past/upload here.
Ok, here goes: PowerToysReport_2021-01-05-13-27-02.zip
Got the same set of error multiple times in the logs. Looks like they get regenerated on every boot (which I'm doing regularly at the moment as I'm installing stuff).
@enricogior https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/9573 had issues that matched this.
@jrfnl with 0.35, are you still seeing this?
@crutkas Thanks for checking back with me.
I've just had a look through the logs and AFAICS the last set of errors from ColorPicker recorded on my system are from March 24th. And by the looks of it, I upgraded from PowerToys 0.33.1 to 0.35.0 on April 1st.
If you like, I can do another check like this in a few weeks to see if this still holds true.
