Description

As per UNICEF, more than 20 million newborns have health issues due to the low quality diets of their pregnant mothers.

There are lots of information sources on the web that provide guidance on what kinds to foods to eat / avoid during pregnancy.

However, as my doctor son says, vetting of these information sources is a must due to the dangers to both the mothers and babies for any ill formed advice.

At the Des Moines Iowa farmer's market two Saturdays ago, a kind farmer gave us his basket of different farm tomatoes to take home. A friend's daughter who is expecting in her first trimester who loved tomatoes, wondered whether she could eat them.

My doctor son told her to check from authoritative sources from the web.

This gave me the idea of the application. Where RAG could help.

I downloaded several documents but only uploaded a few ones which had not only the correct information pertinent to the topic but also was in a format that would be easy for the text embeddings to be generated and served accurately. Many documents had images. A future version of the app would hopefully help extract these too. I

Since Cosmos DB stores both the text and embeddings, it is a single point solution that will make future solutions both cost effective and reliable.

Both to be mothers and medical professionals (who also need reliable sources that they can trust) will benefit from the app.

It is a low cost end to end solution that will help counter competition both from free chatbots as well as low quality ones.
