WSL2: Unbearable delays in the programs #11863

Closed fwidmann closed 1 month ago

fwidmann commented 1 month ago

Windows Version

Microsoft Windows 11 Enterprise 23H2 [Version 10.0.22631.3880]

WSL Version

2.2.4.0

Are you using WSL 1 or WSL 2?

Kernel Version

5.15.153.1-2

Distro Version

Ubuntu 22.04

Other Software

Docker Desktop V4.32.0 (Windows) Oracle VirtualBox 7.0.18 r162988 Visual Studio 2022 V17.10.4 Visual Studio Code V1.9.1.1 (Windows) ... and a lot of other software - it´s a developer workstation

Repro Steps

Start the WSL-VM and enter a simple command. Example: ls -l hangs somewhere for about 1 minute.

Expected Behavior

No delays, fast execution of commands, even simple ones.

Actual Behavior

There are delays. With simple commands (like ls -l) I get a waiting time of about 1 minute. With complex commands (like apt update) the waiting time is unbearable.

Diagnostic Logs

No response

To find out where the program hangs, I used the tool strace with the command ls -l. This also got stuck here with a delay of about one minute.

strace --output=strace-ls-l-20240731-1432.txt ls -l

You can see the output in the attachment. I have marked the waiting time with a few blank lines. strace-ls-l-20240731-1432.txt

In another error message I found a hint to try safeMode=true. Then, the commands then run without delay. However, the network adapters are also deactivated - and I need network access.
