Missed .inc files #9

Error C1083 Shaders/Compiled/XboxOnePBREffect_VSConstant.inc: No such file or directory, DirectXTK_XboxOneXDK_2015 <..>\Xbox-ATG-Samples\Kits\DirectXTK\Src\PBREffect.cpp 87 This error i got whe trying to compile 'Gamepad' sample. As i see, there are no some .inc files with names such as 'XboxOnePBREffect_VSConstant.inc' These includes don't work (PBREffect.cpp) for Xbox One part :

None of the Shaders\Compiled\XboxOne*.inc files are in the repro because they are specific to the particular edition of the Xbox One XDK you are using. They were built the first time you built the library.

I'm guessing that you updated your existing working directory that included new features in DirectXTK, so you had a partial set of shaders already sitting there. The MSBuild logic in DirectXTK_XboxOneXDK_2015.vcxproj only checks for a single key file to make it easier to maintain.

You can manually re-build the shaders by opening the Xbox One Developer Command Prompt, then change to Kits\DirectXTK\Src\Shaders and run CompileShaders.cmd xbox

Alternatively, you can delete Kits\DirectXTK\Src\Shaders\Compiled\XboxOne*.inc and the next build will regenreate them.

@walbourn I have made clear checkout (master) Xbox-ATG-Samples and open SimpleTriangle12 solution and (long) build failed this way:

The log didn't capture the actual shader errors, so I'm not sure what's happening. Open an XDK command prompt, go to Kits\DirectXTK12\Src\Shaders and run CompileShaders.cmd xbox so you can see what the actual error output is here.

I have 1706 QFE 7 on my system and it compiled fine...

I need the output of the CompileShaders.cmd xbox. I suspect FXC is actually outputting error information to cerr instead of cout

The two forms of output date back to ancient days of console. It was considered useful back then, but I agree now it's mostly a pain. See this article.

I hadn't realized that the MSBuild log would be missing the error output from my command script custom action, so I'll take a look at how to redirect that output.

In the meantime, just cut & paste from the MS Command Prompt one of the errors I can't see so I can figure out what's happening.

If I introduce errors into my shaders and rebuild them, error output is showing up in the MSBuild log. Where did the build log you show above come from? It is missing the stderr output, but I'm not sure why.
