I use a similar setup to what @koenj described, i.e. Jira + BitBucket + Azure Pipelines, and there was no release section in Jira issue 😢. Hopefully, we can get some clarity on whether this scenario is supported.
Also a similar setup here (Jira + Azure Devops Git Repo + Azure Pipelines), same results, no release section and no work items in devops.
also doing JIRA, BitBucket, Azure Devops (build and release)
just want to add the build information does show in bitbucket (and has for a long time) but it doesnt look like deployment info is making it back into JIRA
And another person here using Bitbucket Cloud for source control. In the months before GA, there was never a mention of any dependency on GitHub in particular. This is completely new to me. I was under the impression that smart commit was the lynchpin here, why does GitHub need any extension at all? Will Bitbucket require an extension too to get any functonality? Or will it work with reduced functionality? What's missing? etc. Please clarify.
Just a point to heed if you're wondering how to prioritize bitbucket: If you're targeting JIRA users, you're also targeting Bitbucket. Bitbucket is the preferred repository to use with JIRA because it has superior integration. See https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/bitbucket-integration
I left a review on the atlassian marketplace and "they" responded:
Currently, Release pipelines in Azure Pipelines support tracing commits and associated issues for GitHub and Azure Repos only. We have BitBucket support in the plans, but that would take us a while.
Pretty lame.
I put in an official feature request here: https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/653150/bitbucket-support-for-azure-pipelines-for-jira-1.html
feel free to vote it up.
Thanks for the feedback. We have triaged the same and added to the backlog. However, as per current timelines, we may not be able to fulfil this request in this quarter. We'll relook at the same in January 2020.

@shashban any update on bitbucket support?
From the reviews:
Azure DevOps Thanks for the feedback, The app relies on the underlying capability in Azure Pipelines to track butbucket commits being deployed. The required feature is being implemented in the platform, targeted to Q1 of 2020. Once that is in place, we will update the app as well to work with bitbucket.
Is it still the target or should everyone be looking into alternatives?
@shashban Bump.

Hey @shashban ,
Thank you and your team for this great tool. I wish I could use it at my company. It's a smaller company, and it's always good to show value, which Microsoft tools often add. I just really wish I could show my manager and the CTO the release status of a ticket.
Do you have an updated target delivery date for Bitbucket support?
Sincerely, Paul
Hey @shashban, Any news on the support for the Bitbucket ?
Thanks, Rui
I am afraid we had to deprioritize bitbucket support for this integration, in interest of other features with Azure Pipelines.
@shashban Just curious if there's any news on this?
@shashban @nishubansal are there any updates on the Jira + Bitbucket + DevOps support?
Any update on the Jira + Bitbucket + DevOps support?
Well, after 11 months with no commit in this repo, it looks like this is abandoned.
Well, after - I'm too lazy to count - it looks like this is really abandoned. This is sad, as It will most likely force us into either Jira or Devops only. And since everything is in Jira anyway you can imagine who wins here...
The documentation tutorial shows an example of Jira + GitHub + Azure Pipelines integration; as a prerequisite, it states that "GitHub for Jira" should be installed.
We are using BitBucket and are using Jira issue keys in commit messages; our JIRA issues do show Development integration for Pull Requests etc:
I did follow the tuturial to install and configure the extension; However,
Is this related to using BitBucket instead of GitHub? I would expect this to work, since the JIRA tickets keep track of the BitBucket commits.
Thanks for your time, Koen
