Problem Statement

We're trying to solve that everyone who wants to re-use many variables without typing them all over manually, or opening multiple instances of calculator.

Evidence or User Insights

You can do this, because I can proof that Google gives us human verification requests, by using their calculator too much, which does remember all calculations in search history.

Proposal

Goals

I want to compare a lot of calculated screen resolutions, but I lost them typing in a forum with bad shortcuts.

Non-Goals

We don't need dynamic history count, just around 3 times as much history is enough.

Low-Fidelity Concept

I don't know how much ram history consumes, but 20 spaces can't be the max, else double it. Or add a button to activate log mode and put it in a text document on every enter.

Requested Assignment

I'm just suggesting this idea. I don't want to implement it.

This has been a sore point for me as well. I would MUCH prefer the history to be a simple edit box where we can more easily copy and paste numbers and calculations from. The current history widget is terrible.

This is your friendly Microsoft Issue Bot. I've seen this issue come in and have gone to tell a human about it.

Same here, I'm baffled it's not a default, let alone an option at all! In 2024! I did searches and people been asking to have an option so that the history can be conserved upon close and reopening the app (or PC shutdowns) for years!

Here's someone else asking about it but in a slightly different manner: https://github.com/microsoft/calculator/issues/2159
