Country flags and Emoji Version 15.0 #100

Hi, I love this beautiful library and would like to use it for a design project.

However, I see that it misses country flag emojis and still not have last emojis from version 15.0, like goose or moose emojis.

I would like to know if the project is still alive and if you plan to keep up to date with last emojis and country flag emojis.

Best regards,

Pierre

Country flags aren't coming from Microsoft. They don't want "problems" with politics, but they have no issue making a special version of Windows for China.

TBH, prior to the latest version, their emoji have never been "clean" and "beautiful". And great apps like Unigram let you choose which emoji pack to use.

The only issue is that we've got no way to insert country flags from the new Emoji panel.

Heard that Unicode 15 support is available in Microsoft Teams, what about here?

@DarthJahus we should keep challenging Microsoft on that at every opportunity. The decision is not consistent with other decisions taken by the design team. Microsoft also does plenty of other things which have even greater potential to cause "offence" in certain parts of the world so it shows that when there is a will there is a way. I think someone just made a mistake some time ago - and it's OK, we all make mistakes - but now it is carried on by inertia. There are countless users all over the world who are frustrated on daily basis by the consequences of that decision. It doesn't have to be that way.

I'm going to link a more detailed post here so that all issues related to flags are cross-referenced: https://github.com/microsoft/fluentui-emoji/issues/105#issuecomment-1793381202

Btw, neither you can insert middle-finger emoji (🖕). Every other service allows it. Seems like it's not just political, but they're trying to moderate what people write at "system" (?) level. Well… Again, good apps allow it, just write : and add whatever you want as emoji. Microsoft is a bit late with their emoji panel. And on mobile, most keyboards allow you to insert emojis with no restriction.
