Project name

Recon Solar Shield Initiative - RSSI

Description

Recon Solar Shield Initiative- RSSI delivers a cutting-edge web platform using ACE satellite and DSCOVR satellite data to make predictions of magnetic reconnection events. Through advanced analytics and intuitive visualizations, it deciphers complex solar-terrestrial phenomena, offering crucial insights into space weather patterns. By enhancing predictive capabilities using artificial intelligence and fostering scientific understanding, our platform safeguards infrastructure, supports space exploration, and educates the public, marking a significant stride in space science and technology.

The Recon Solar Shield Initiative - RSSI is a innovative project aimed at advancing our understanding of magnetic reconnection and its profound implications for space weather. In an era where our reliance on technology and space-based infrastructure continues to grow, mitigating the impact of space weather events on our systems has never been more crucial.

MILESTONES AND OBJECTIVES Our project revolves around 4 key milestones :-

  1. Explore the Frequency of Magnetic Reconnection: We harness data from NASA's ACE and DSCOVR missions to delve into the frequency of magnetic reconnection events. Rigorous data analysis allows us to identify and record instances of magnetic reconnection. By accumulating this data, we aim to determine how often these events occur, providing critical insights into space weather patterns.

  2. Investigate the Correlation Between Solar Activity and Earth's Seasons: We analyze the correlation between solar activity and the changing seasons here on Earth. By assessing data over various timeframes, we seek to uncover when solar activity peaks or diminishes throughout the year. Clear data visualization techniques, including charts and graphs, help us illustrate these correlations effectively.

  3. Examine the Correlation Between Solar Activity and Solar Seasons: We also focus on solar seasons, which are part of the 11-year solar cycle, including solar maximum and solar minimum phases. Through our analysis, we gain a comprehensive view of the Sun's magnetic field and its impact on solar activity over a decade.

  4. Determine Solar Wind Conditions Impacting Earth's Technologies: Machine learning, using ML .NET, aids us in estimating thresholds for various solar wind properties, such as magnetic strength, proton speed, and proton density. This critical information helps us pinpoint which solar wind conditions are most likely to disrupt Earth's magnetosphere and subsequently impact our technologies.

TECHNOLOGICAL STACK Our project boasts a powerful technological stack:

On the front-end, we employ SvelteKit for dynamic web interfaces and data visualization. The back-end is developed using ASP .NET Core, offering robust capabilities for data collection, processing, and integration. ML .NET powers our machine learning model. Twitter integration facilitates outreach and community engagement. Impact and Vision: The Recon Solar Shield Initiative - RSSI represents a significant leap forward in space weather research.

By achieving our milestones, we aim to:

Enhance our ability to predict and prepare for space weather events. Safeguard critical technologies, including communication satellites, navigation systems, and power grids. Foster a vibrant community of space enthusiasts, accelerating scientific advancements.

Conclusion: In a world increasingly reliant on technology and space-based assets, the Recon Solar Shield Initiative - RSSI shines a light on the future of space weather research. It's not just about understanding magnetic reconnection; it's about safeguarding our world and the technologies that connect us to the cosmos. Join us on this exciting journey towards a safer and more informed future in space weather research.
