Sankey is a type of flow diagram in which the width of the series is in proportion to the quantity of the flow. Use it to find major contributions to an overall flow.

Sort order #57

we have noticed that you are unable to sort either the source or destination on the diagram. It would be useful to be able to sort by A-Z particularly if using named areas, and trying to see the change of the flow over different time points when using a filter. At the moment as i change time period on the slicer, area names will completely move placement, even though they are still present making it more difficult to see how the time period effects the flow

I would like to ask if it is possible to rearrange the flows to make data visualisation clearer (avoiding overlap or flows where possible) this is an example I of an issue I am facing: <>

helen508light commented 5 years ago

@jomanaes Could you describe it in more details with simple examples(as you see the problem and maybe suggested different decisions). You had mentioned before about an example of an issue...but where is it?

jomanaes commented 4 years ago

@helen508light I don't know why it does not allow me to upload the image, like in other blogs... the issue is that the workflows intertwined when it is easier to visualise if they are straight, to view the proportions... I could send the image to your email if you want... Thanks for your help U:\Pictures\Sankey ordering flows.PNG

Example Sankey with default layout: SanKey default

Same data with alphabetical layout: SanKey both alphabetical And note that when manually reordering to alphabetical, some of the bands from the source cross over, rather than redrawing. This is especially evident in the Flag E on the left where the top band leads downwards and the bottom band leads upwards.

One slicer change (a different time frame) from original selection reorders all elements, plus changes their colours: SanKey default different time

The option to sort by largest source or largest destination would also be great.

Still a duplicate of #6 Ordering of elements

Thanks!

Hi Elena,

Thanks for getting back to me. The attached email touches on the same problem I am having, the image attached shows how the flows are overlapping when they could just flow horizontally without intertwining, I do not know how to do that if you could add that capability would be great because it will help to make visuals simpler and easier to understand.

Kind regards,
