Azure IoT device catalog - how to get devices? #18

Hello, Pardon me for posting this here, but it is a real barrier for me getting started. I'm unable to purchase any Azure certified IoT devices from the Azure device catalog, some of which are shown in the Build Session Here. It seems that for each product, when you click 'Get Device' you're directed to the manufacturer site, which is either in a different language, or to a general contact page with no specifics on how to get the device. For example, how do you purchase the Askey Dashcam? I really want to get started prototyping a fleet tracking solution. Thanks

There are many different devices to choose from depending on what the needs of your solution call for. This is not an issue with the vscode-azure-iot-tools project. You'll need to do your research for the device that looks to fit your needs for prototyping, and then find a reseller that you can purchase that device from.

Depending on your experience, the Microsoft Azure IoT Dev Kit made by MXChip (AZ3166) is a great option to get started prototyping. However, with fleet tracking solution you'll probably want GPS integration (I would assume), so you'll need to look into GPS device options as an add-on sensor to connect, or otherwise.

As far as where to buy certain devices, like the Askey Dashcam, if you can't find a reseller then you'll need to contact the manufacturer, or search their website for distributors / resellers. The Azure IoT Certified Device catalog is to help you find certified devices; unfortunately, it's not a marketplace to buy devices directly from Microsoft.

Thanks for your reply. I understand this isn't an issue with the vscode-azure-iot-tools project. I was posting here because of the lack of a better place to do so I suppose. I have done my research and found that the best device is one like the Askey Dashcam. I'm aware of the MX Chip but want an actual packaged product. I contacted the manufacturer of this and other products listed in the catalog and have tried finding resellers with no luck. I understand that the catalog is not for buying from Microsoft but rather just a listing of products. I'll keep looking.
