We are looking into this. Fwiw, Chat should not degrade performance of completions.
@digitarald that is correct but e.g. in my case the copilot chat extension crashes. This triggers the Extension bisect popup (after some time). I cannot uninstall the chat-extention because every time I disable/uninstall the chat-extension, the normal Copilot extension is disabled/uninstalled as well. This is very annoying because until the extension host finally gives up my CPU is at 100% utilization.
As a workaround, I deleted the github.copilot-chat-0.11.1
folder and modified the extensions.json
file in the vscode extension installation folder.
@ofek-kenbi did you also experience performance issues or just didn't need the chat functionality?

VS Code completely crashed for me whenever I opened it. I had to delete chat so I could use VS Code.
outrageous that you can't just get rid of it with a button
I feel like performance is horrible lately when using quick fixes in VSCode. And i am using quick fixes all the time to import modules in my react applications. How can i disable Copilot in this context? It keeps loading forever. Also when uninstalling Copilot Chat which i never use it also uninstalls Copilot itself. Arent those two seperated?
