unwanted text automatically added to .project files in cloned repo

something in my setup is causing this bit of code to be added to all my .project files on my cloned repo. and it is truly annoying to manually revert all the changes so that i know for sure i'm only pushing wanted changes to the remote. (our remote is bitbucket)

Issue troubleshooting has identified that the issue is with Visual Studio Code. It is confirmed that the issue exists in Visual Studio Code Insiders (also ran the troubleshooter in the insider version) Issue troubleshooting has identified that the issue is with Visual Studio Code - Insiders.

continuation of: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/196999 ran the troubleshooter, it said to run in the insider version.

no. it is not public.

eventually i uninstalled all the extensions except for Atlassian and its dependencies. was able to clone without auto-changes. apparently, it was one of the extensions (likely the java project manager extension i don't recall the actual name).
