I'm baffled... that 12 year old stackexchange post by a random user is English phoneme quality law?! You cannot say "aitch" for H, it may be a common fool's mistake, but a fool's mistake still!

It is a very common mistake. So common infact for people to be lazy in their speech and to not pronounce H correctly. Please refer to page 124 where vowel quality phoneme is coupled beside latin glyphs for A, H, G. H should not, and must not, be pronounced like a fool of the world.
Try going about your life saying I for high, or yper for hyper, or ello for hello, etc etc. H is H, not aitch.
The Oxford English Dictionary says Aitch is the correct spelling of the name of the letter H.

When hovering over a syntax for HTML, many tooltips have the same spelling mistake.
"if an html" is of course not correct English. If a HTML is.
This is present in at least 5 tooltip windows. The person writing these tooltips many years ago perhaps was not native speaker and spoke with instead a breathy vowel sound for H. such as "aitch".
