microsoft visual studio not deleting old extenstnios - still.. like MS systematic solution

I don't see that solution is solved.. looks not.. I'm still deleting manually old extensions sometimes.. when checking what taking many GB on my disk.. https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/179022 https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/78107 ..don't know why tickets are closed.. what information needed.. I saw something.. this looks like new Microsoft Ideology.. bad version management.. to rezise disk space down : ) Check also (And read opinions/info about in internet): C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ C:\Windows\WinSxS C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository ..etc.. other Many.. many manyyyyyyy duplicated versions of something.. looks like systematic solution.. I know it's not related with VSC.. but maybe it is.. as privilege right issue to delete dirs, fils, etc. Last time I meet similar issue around windows client with software around update/delete.. where policy for this must be changed to add new "hash" coz files/dirs was not able deleted by app (python, standalone with update). Then.. nothing to do for client like install new version.. thats explain all :D

@ManPython We do clean up older version of extensions and uninstalled extensions. Can you please do following steps and share the requested information

Start VS Code on a different user data directory and extensions directory in verbose mode. You can do this from CLI - code --user-data-dir <new folder 1> --extensions-dir <new folder 2> --verbose
Install an extension and uninstall it
Quit VS Code and restart again from CLI using above command
Share the log - F1 > Open View... > Shared
Quit VS Code and restart again from CLI using above command
Share the log again - F1 > Open View... > Shared

Eg. ms-vscode.remote-explorer is not deleted as old and other, but eg. ms-python.python was deleted. Note about logs.. ms-python.python have DELETE and ms-vscode.remote-explorer not, as CHANGE

I checked the events logs windows 11 and nothing special. Note, that symlinks are used for extensions.

It looks like outdated and uninstalled extensions are being deleted properly - They get deleted in max 2 restarts of VS Code. Can you please check if you do not see extensions getting deleted in more than 2 restarts?

Always exist some duplication (as example), but I don't care about to much if not exist to much of this all.. : ) If this was not deleted by 1st time then next times with updates can recognize old. I think it's more MS Window issue around "connection" from OS some files/dirs.

Not sure about: \.vscode\extensions\extensions.json.vsctmp': EntryNotFound (FileSystemError): Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, stat 'c:\Users\ManPython\.vscode\extensions\extensions.json.vsctmp' at r.create Exist extensions.json but not extensions.json.vsctmp - what is vsctmp ? Why name is other?

You can ignore the error about extensions.json.vsctmp - this is to write extensions.json file atmocially.

Can you please confirm that if github.copilot-chat-0.13.1 extension is not active in VS Code: You can check this by

Open a VS Code window using default profile and check the version of the above extension
If you have created custom VS Code profiles - please check in each profile if this version of the above extension exists in any of the custom profile.

If you confirm this extension is not active in VS Code, then please share following file in extensions folder .obsolete.

On extensions list exist v0.14.0 not v0.13.1 I'm not using profiles/ obsolete.zip

Thanks for sharing the information. It seems I am not cleaning up those extensions which are not active in any profile.
