Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled? Yes

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open visual studio code
  2. Begin editing any file
  3. Many many crash dialogs will appear like below: image

I was able to fix this problem temporarily by downgrading to vscode 1.87, seems to be something breaking with the update?

Also seeing this on 1.88.1, with crashreport also taking a significant amount of CPU. Downgrade to last version resolves for me.

Seeing the same issue on 1.88.1, MacOS Ventura 13.5.2 and I can confirm downgrading to 1.87 fixed the issue.

Noticed some interesting behavior, I was able to reinstall the latest version of vscode without the issue returning, but the instant I made use of the code terminal command to open a file, the crashing behavior returned, with or without launching vscode through terminal. Not sure if this is related or not.

My info:

OS: Darwin arm64 23.5.0

I had no problems last week. Problem started when upgrading to this version today. I can confirm that this version also produces this error. Reinstallation of VSCode did not solve the problem. Rebooting laptop also didn't solve the problem.

I had several windows with projects open and one of them had the Terminal window open. Based on @YonatanAhituv 's suggestion I closed the Terminal window and it seemed the errors became less frequent. Finally I closed all windows and restarted VSCode.

For now I have one window open but the Terminal window closed and there is no error anymore.

I just started seeing this today on macOS 14.6.1, VSCode 1.93.1. It's really bad. It crashes every few seconds and is filling my disk with crash logs.
