feature request: allow users to show `File Information` and display file size for any file #213193

Closed hamirmahal closed 1 month ago

hamirmahal commented 3 months ago

Current Behavior

VSCode shows file information in the bottom pane of the editor only for binary files or files with an unsupported text encoding.

The file is not displayed in the text editor because it is either binary or uses an unsupported text encoding.

Desired Behavior

It would be nice if VSCode gave users the option to show file information for every file open in the editor, regardless of its encoding.

Also, would be nice to have option to open with configured shell command, like on Windows I could configure it to use explorer.exe or cmd.exe /c start "" or something, so it defaults to whatever app is associated in the system.
