Additional text before the first output line from a Python program in terminal

Create a simple Python program such as:

print("Hello world")
print("Hello VS Code")

Run the program without debugging, the output in VS Code terminal shows

However, if I close and reopen the same code, and run the the program again without debugging, the problem goes away.
