I would like to add my experience.

Lately, maybe in the past 2 month or so, I find myself having a slower and slightly worst experience using VSCode. Can't explain, just a feeling on how it feel responsive lately.

I update monthly and could say that in June, I've start experiencing some small lag, while Today is a lag of few seconds.

Today, I install the latest update (1.91.1) and I immediately found that the Scrolling start lagging and "ctrl+mouse click" seem to lag a bit where the UI find the references slower than before. I found myself thinking that something is not right, so I've uninstalled some extensions I didn't need anymore, reboot the PC and still have a "laggy experience". Nothing that doesn't allow me to work, but enough to make the experience slightly annoying.

I did not install any new extensions, nor anything that could be suspicious to affect VSCode performance.

I do have a old CPU i7 (4th gen with 24go ram) which never have been an issue about responsiveness of the IDE (In situation where I'm not running something heavy in the background). I also experience some lag in the past due to using a M1 "with not enough RAM", but it's a different feeling.

Can't help much as I'm not sure what cause this, but when lag happen, CPU goes up to 100%.
