WSLg GUI app disappeared from the Start Menu after reboot. #1155

Windows build number:

10.0.22000.0

Your Distribution version:

Ubuntu 22.04

Your WSL versions:

WSL version: 2.0.9.0 WSLg version: 1.0.59

Steps to reproduce:

I used to have shortcuts in the start menu, but most of them disappeared and only one left when I started Windows this morning.

DLR_@B5HQ%Y90BQ4Y_KQ}R6

.desktop files found in /usr/share/applications

Tried removing and reinstalling Nautilus, but the shortcut is still not displayed in the start menu. I used to use PowerToys Run to search for "files" and directly open Nautilus, but now it's not working either.

WSL logs:

pulseaudio.log weston.log stderr.log

WSL dumps:

No response

Expected behavior:

No response

Actual behavior:

I am quite certain that I did not make any changes to my computer during the period from shutting down Ubuntu last night and immediately shutting Windows down to starting Windows this morning.

I'm a Linux noob and I use wsl for learning purposes. Now I can open programs through Terminal so that's not unusable but it's still annoying.

Perhaps this was just an stupid mistake I made, but anyway, I cannot solve it within my ability. Hope someone can solve my problem, appreciating your kindness : ).

This is a recurring issue with WSL2, any distro. I have 18 GUI apps installed, and after every Windows reboot its anyone's guess as to which ones might show up. Sometimes 5 show up, sometimes 15 show up, almost never does all 18 show up. I have three Windows 11 PCs, each has Debian in WSL2, each has the exact same apps installed. They never show the same set of apps in the start menu, and not a single one has ever shown all 18 GUI apps in the start menu at the same time.

Same here for the most part, just worse. For me, GUI apps never showed up again after the first reboot, ever (I can still launch them no problem from a WSL terminal). Could we please get this fixed? Or at the very least, some manual steps that one can execute to get the start menu links back, at least until the next reboot?
