Brightness keys #9

Hi. Can you tell me exactly which HP keyboard software is breaking the brightness keys in macOS? I've reinstalled Windows two times and the keys are still broken. FYI In this state, using RehabMan's ioio, I found that brightness down and up have the same PS2 scancode of e001=80.

Not sure how its really named but windows update would install it as HP Keyboard Framework or something like that. Also you can use Fn+W Fn+C to change brightness (wild). If you want the default keys to work on macOS, turn off the tablet, keep holding the power button for 30 seconds, youll see the led blinking orange for a long while, maybe twice, once that done, power on the device, for the first time it might refuse and blink orange 3 times as if its discharged, try again and it should boot. This is my experience, also if you still have an old firmware version, your device might refuse to boot up after the long press, the solution would be opening it up, disconnect the battery and reconnecting it and it will boot up. I haven't had this issue after some firmware updates, ymmv.

Thanks for the instructions. I do have an old firmware 1.25. The most recent 1.38 refuses to boot macOS so I'll try to find 1.31 as shown in the README and see if that enables brightness keys.

The new firmware have RTC device disabled, use SSDT-AWAC from dortania.

Holding the power button restored brightness keys in macOS. They are not working in Windows though. Is this when I should reinstall Windows?

No, the hp keyboard software is blocking it, try uninstalling it from control panel

I've tried deleting the keyboard software, but the brightness keys are not working in Windows. I think I'll stop here with brightness control. Thank you for your patience so far :)
