I think mining could be a very early game feature that could add actual gaming to it.
With a coordinate system #15 you could use the event system #14 to set a course the the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_belt and begin to fill up your cargo hold with ore.
This system really kicks off when we have a somewhat simulatated #19 economy and the ability to buy bigger ships or upgrade the one we have #7
Money & Ledger #8 is likely a prereq before the this game system makes sense.
Other features this could introduce:
Buy geological survey data to pinpoint high ore concentration in areas of the belt
Event where someone wants to sell you a "treasure map". Maybe it's a scam?
Picking a random spot in the belt and try your luck with what you find
A way to find the best place to sell your ore (sell price vs distance)
