Crash when opening More™ documents #191

Open tameware opened 1 year ago

tameware commented 1 year ago

The MacOS 9 App "More™" runs beautifully. I can create, save, and open simple outlines. When I try to open files I created decades ago, though, I get an Emulator Error: "RuntimeError: memory access out of bounds"

I've attached a copy of the app and two of the files I'm trying to open. The files must be given the type MOR2 or MOR3 using ResEdit for the app to be able to open it.

.sit.hqx.zip ? Geez

Super compressed! For some reason, Github will not allow uploads of hqx files. I downloaded the .hqx from a web page where the author, Dave Winer, had made it available. archive.org still has a copy.

You inspired me to look up Ray Lau on LinkedIn. It seems he's still going strong.

Perhaps they're scared of HQX files since some browsers in the past tried to auto-decode them and it would result in utter confusion among users, thinking that HQX files were corrupted when they were not. Mozilla products such as Thunderbird and Firefox were the main ones and I'm talking especially under Windows which is kind of ridiculous since HQX files were much more of a Mac file format to begin with.

6 years ago, I made Mozilla fix their 15 years old bug with HQX files being auto-decoded (and thus rendering Mac HQX files corrupted and completely useless when downloaded under Windows) but maybe some sites like GitHub continue to ban HQX files to avoid confusion or perhaps that GitHub doesn't even know the Mozilla bug is fixed now? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1390708#c0

BTW, doing what you described in the first post also crashes SheepShaver for Windows, not just Infinite Mac. Both my Finder and MacOS9.app Finder think that they are Word documents. Have you tried to just double click on them to launch them in Word?
