Isn't that just a tracker like MangaUpdates, MAL, AL, etc... ?
Maybe, but you can carry it with you offline and click and open the "source" you're using.
trackers tell you what (TBH, I don't use them, so not sure if they tell you when new chapters come), this would keep track not only of what you've read but where and if there's new stuff there.
I agree that it could be useful.
For me main reason for using Tach... Ekhm Mihon is having all my manga and their updates in one place.
Old repo had the rule where they would remove extension if they are harmful for scanlators's website as long as they don't display aggressive adds.
With links only extensions it would allow us to
while scanlators can still earn on adds. It would probably also work for extensions that are too hard to maintain due to sites blocking them.
I personally don't mind reading in webview as long as updates are checked automatically and I can directly open chapter page from mihon.
@BrutuZ All of the database mentioned does not track individual chapter release websites/links.
They only list official release site without tracking any new release.
MangaUpdates does track new releases, no one will provide links for obvious reasons
@BrutuZ MU only covers English release, and only manga, manhua, manhwa, OEL, and some other Asian comics. Definitely not covering every single posssible usage of Mihon, which its extension also covers CG, photobook, art gallery, etc.
Whatever you're looking for, seems beyond the scope of a image reader app ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@BrutuZ All of them are images and already supported by Mihon/Tachiyomi.
Just saying it, in regards of MangaUpdates or third-party database/tracker.
I just remembered that MD allows adding links to official free releases as well as uploading scans.
So for chapters 1-7 of Cleric of Decay there are chapters that can't be opened in app but are listed along other chapters. Prompting to open webview (with webtoon page) would be a great utilisation of requested feature in that case.
So rather than creating totally new plugin type it should rather allow extensions to use both approaches.
Describe your suggested feature
Maybe as a way to "future proof" and enable a one-stop place to manage all reading done, have a new extension type that is "link only".
It would mean that it would fetch the list and you would be able to mark it as read. But it would offer no download/read option or downloads, just a link to the chapter on their website (or app?).
Not only this prevents problems with some places, it could help with getting some "official" support from others that might not mind people using mihon to track what they are reading. This can also mean that other content could be tracked and managed in mihon (like light novels).
