google instant search hangs #312

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Switch on google instant search
2. randomly search something and keep on changing the search text
3. Suddenly it shows google instant is unavailable
4. Press enter to search... but nothing happens after repeatably pressing 
enter. 

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should display search results....

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Google Chrome 8.0.552.224. Windows XP SP3

What is the url of the corresponding thread at Google Groups?

What is your support ticket from Google support?

Please provide any additional information below.

I have the same problem... Firefox 3.6.13 Windows XP SP3

Symptom:

Searches working fine, then...

Searches take a long time, if they work at all.

The url for the search is extremely long and appears to make little sense.

This problem comes and goes.

You get a warning from Google about lots of traffic coming from your network 
address.

Solution:

Select the google ‘wheel’ in upper right corner.

Change settings to disable autocomplete =.

This is the url search used with autocomplete on. Search for 'Lions'.
for lions.

Same issue here, the instant page just fades into grey colour and nothing 
happens.
Chrome
Windows XP
Intel core i5

Same problem in Firefox 10 on Mac.

Disabling autocomplete does not help.

I think I solved this a while back by disabling/uninstalling plugins.

I forget which was the culprit.
Disable them all and see if the problem goes away.
If so, re-enable until teh symptom returns.
