Testing is needed to see whether there is any quality drop when going above 100% volume, if there is then doing this would be a bad idea. If there is no quality drop then it might even be worth just changing the UI so that the user sees 100% when VLC is actually at 200%, and the user sees 50% when VLC is at 100%.
