Convert this "HP t620 Plus" into a local gateway and Wifi router #1

Bought a HP t620 plus with 4 GB of memory and a 128 GB SSD. Added a "HP NC364T 436431-001 PCI-E Quad Port Gigabit Server Adapter Low Profile", a "Intel 7260HMW" wireless card and in case there is a problem with the mini-PCI wireless card, a AWUS036ACM (mt7612u) 802.11ac USB adapter. The overall cost was around 120€.

These components need to be transformed into a gateway and router that can be upgraded perpetually.

EDIT: DO NOT BUY THIS CARD! INTEL SPECIFICALLY DOES NOT SUPPORT 5 GHz AP MODE!!!

In the end, I had two solutions which could both have worked. I went with the Alfa AWUS036ACM USB adapter, and could have had a better solution with Compex WLE600VX and a miniPCIe half-length to full-length adapter.

The HP NIC installed and working, waiting for a star head screwdriver to remove the old wireless card.

The Wireless-AC 7260 card is now installed, the screw was a star (torx) T9.

We don't support AP mode in the 5GHz band, because we don't have a way to detect
radar transmissions in order to evacuate the channels...

https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi/debugging

Edit: Also, Intel support article 000030429 states "All current Intel® Wireless Adapters are client-only devices and don't support the master or AP mode."

Currently only Atheros drivers (ath9k, ath10k) are know to properly support AP mode in the 5GHz band. Most notably, the intel driver iwlwifi only has good AP mode support for the 2.4GHz band, AP mode in the 5GHz band is either disabled or crippled.

Plan B: Use my existing Ubiquiti AP AC LITE for wifi, and flash OpenWRT on it.

Or.... https://community.ui.com/questions/Proper-way-to-modify-AP-config-via-SSH/fa796d19-7cef-4d96-b092-d8fe865c6f06

masaman:

  1. Modify /tmp/system.cfg
  2. run save
  3. run reboot
  4. done change is persistent.
