Info for new researchers #1

Hey all,

Just wondering what content and level of detail we're planning on putting on here. Ideas:

Links to learning materials - Software Carpentry (Shell, R, Python, Git, SQL), DataCamp (R), STAT435 materials, recommended Stats/Linear Algebra resources (e.g., Tibshirani), Programming Cheat Sheets. Accessing computational resources - Biochem Dept (SAN, biochembioinfo), NeSI (Tuakiri, Applying for a Project, ssh keys, Slurm). What are our practices for submitting code to github - what goes on personal v. labgroup accounts (is lab account private?).

Cheers, Tom K

Other recommendations for new researchers: -Markdown tutorial for Rmd users: http://markdowntutorial.com/ -RSS tracker (e.g., feedly) for tracking lit searches (e.g., pubmed) and blogs on bioinformatics or academic writing (all credit to James on this one) -Interloan (and other Otago Library services for aquiring/managing academic papers) -Reference manager (EndNote, BibTeX, Mendeley, etc)
