Proposed workshop: Interactive art #28

I've been really inspired lately by the interactive artwork I've witnessed (and created) in recent months.

It feels like a natural progression for me, and something I would be very interested in helping to facilitate for others that might be interested.

The materials are fairly low-cost, and would include many 'analog' components, and the electronic components would all be on the low-end; LEDs, photoresistors, piezos, PIR, ultrasound, etc.

This would also be something that might integrate well with the other kids & SO tracks.

I honestly don't know how to gauge potential interest from attendees, or if this would even be an appropriate venue/format for such a workshop. But it's something I'm very interested in, so I thought it would be worth mentioning if we're looking for any other content.

Ooooh. We're strongly considering incorporating this area of work at CascadiaJS after having met some really amazing makers/programmers here in Portland. If this doesn't happen at NodeConf, I'd love to talk to you about it @nexxy :D

I'd love to talk to you about it either way :)

If it is mostly hardware related we could cut it out as a section of the hardware room on the second day which is more free form and optional, and also deeper.

In the other sessions we're pushing people to write modules on the second full day but that doesn't make as much sense with hardware. Most people will want to do projects of some kind and a space for javascript art would make a lot of sense.

I think the bulk of the average project would be comprised of hardware and software.

The "analog" components of a piece are much more open to interpretation and personal expression. Most people are already comfortable enough with those elements to not need much instruction, although it sounds like there would be plenty of people available for that as well (myself included).

I love the idea of a JS art show at-or-near the end of the conf.
