How many people will we have for the adult SO track?

aemaier commented 10 years ago

@lyle -- Starting a record here of responses I get to the SO Track email. I'll keep it updated as they come in. Also, did we ever reach a conclusion about purchasing robotics kits?

Kids Technology Track Responses:

lyle commented 10 years ago

Thanks. This will be very useful. No on the robot kits. We will do free form construction and Max's Voxle prints. (I still need to grab and bring a printer, inc, and card stock.

Kids Technology Track Responses:

  • 2 kids (ages 9 and 11) are planning to do the Kids Technology track. That family will bring two laptops--one unspecified and one Chromebook. The kids are excited to play with node copters and looking forward to a little programming.

How does this sound for the Kids Technical Track ? Friday Morning: 3D structures (Clay or Paper) - I could use help Starting off by showing the kids LEDs and batteries and explaining that they have choice in what to build to later add LEDs to: 1) Clay : creating small pendents and beads of clay, that can be used to hold LEDs These items will dry in the sun, and be baked in the camp fire at night (help needed) 2) http://voxelbuilder.com/ - using a computer to create a voxel creature, then printing, cutting and gluing it together.

Friday Afternoon: Copters and Programing Fireworks in the Boogie Barn With @aulvi and others? We should have some kids with their own machines, and three NodeConf chrome books The chrome books need to be set to dev mode and Node installed (help needed)

Saturday Morning: Electronics / Phone Wire / Jewelry Making / Adding LEDs Kids get to set up LEDs and batteries with either their clay pendents, and phone-wire wrapped jewelry, or add them and finish their Voxel creatures.

Saturday Afternoon: Programing Depending on Skill: CodeSchool JS class and/or http://nodeschool.io/#learn-you-node And Jewelry and construction stuff is still open for those not doing programing

Sunday Morning: Room open all welcome

aemaier commented 10 years ago

This looks great, thanks Lyle! I believe Adam is available to help you on Fri am, since he's already helping with node copters in the pm. Should I go ahead and add the activities to the final schedule?

Lyle, chrome books have been rooted and node installed on them. Do you need any other software loaded? On Jul 2, 2014 3:41 PM, "Lyle Troxell" notifications@github.com wrote:

@aulvi great news, thank you! Everything else can wait, but if you have time and they are still under your power... * If you want to prep them for drone cntrl that would be good. * They will be printing to an HP4635 printer but not sure how much work that will be with out the printer vs with. * We will probably have kids do the Learn Ye Node from nodeschool.io http://nodeschool.io - so you could -g that package + dependencies.

@mhoo and I are delayed by sick kids. Be there this evening.
