Turns out this ASV is the reverse complement of the primary B. ovatus ASV v2_A2_ASV1. It's frequency is always very small, never going much above 3e-4 and completely absent in most samples, so perhaps this is just from a rare PCR event or something and can be safely ignored.
This does suggest a possibly-useful ASV filtering step of looking for ASVs that are reverse complements of other ASVs
DADA2/Silva assigned this as Mitochondria; yet it Blasts as an exact hit to Bacteroides ovatus 16S; but isn't at all similar to the B. ovatus 16S ASVs I identified in my strain assignment procedure.
