sexp.c:1340:vsexp_sscan whiling scanning Windows Machine #84

Closed MogiePete closed 7 years ago

MogiePete commented 8 years ago

Pull the docker. Log in for the first time. Go to scan Windows Server and this is the error that immediately pops up.

Ohhhh jeeee: ... this is a bug (sexp.c:1340:vsexp_sscan)

Al

mikesplain commented 8 years ago

Yeah I got that the other day as well. I found it occurs only when I scan IPs but DNS names don't give me this problem. Have you seen anything similar? Thanks!

MogiePete commented 8 years ago

Mike, I seem to only get this when I run it against a Windows machine with the DNS or the IP.

pizzarabe commented 8 years ago

I got this problem while scanning DNS names and Linux machines. One of them was an ftp server the other was an http server. The httpd server was scanned before (with no problems).

Don't know If this helps

After spending countless hours trying to dig into this I got no where over the past year. Yesterday I rebuilt the container on the new OpenVAS 9beta and ubuntu 16.04, which appears to work quite a bit better. I've made this the latest and 9 tags, while the old image will remain as the 8 tag. I encourage everyone who has had issues ( #88, #86) to give this new image a shot. It definitely needs more work but I've had none of the previous issues with the changes I made.

Please note, a few things have changed in the OpenVAS 9 packages so you should look at the readme for new instructions.

Thanks for everyones support and patience!

Closing this as v9 appears to fix things. Please reopen if you rediscover the issue.
