Retain post authorship data after deleting a user? #77

It would be useful if there were some way of keeping the metadata about who created a post after that user’s account is deleted. Currently (as I understand it) that information is reassigned to another user. It might be useful to have a hidden “post authored by” field.

Just demoting a user to the subscriber role rather than deleting their account would be the easiest option. This would remove their ability to edit the site while retaining their association with the content.

I don't think you want to start creating redundant fields like 'post authored by'. That leads to extra work and makes it more likely that there will be inconsistencies and missing data.
