Widget to directly open a specific pad #66

I find Padland very useful, but the one thing that frustrates me is having to keep navigating to the pad I want, with more taps than should be needed. What I would find very helpful is to be able to add one or more widgets to my home screen, each of which opens Padland directly into a specific pad. So for example, I can have one widget that opens my shopping lists pad, another that opens my general to do list pad, etc. The widget would of course need to have a way to indicate which pad they would open - e.g. an editable short label.

Hi there @msiep!

I guess by widget you mean shortcuts. They're created by an application and can be deleted on demand right within the launcher.

Please rename the card so that it can be found more easily. I suggest the following title: [Feature Request]: Add Function to create Shortcuts for Pads

I further suggest the following features for this function:

Why use external browser for Pads? Simple! Most mobile Webbrowsers are way superior than the default webview or chrome in many aspects.

I think he meant Widget as App widgets.

I can't imagine right now how the UI would be, yet making simple shortcut icons with a label can be a starting point.

I also think that the pads should open with a single tap and then maybe have an info button to review the metadata on the list.

Hi @NA0341 and @mikifus. Thanks for your replies. Yes I did have in mind App widgets, but if shortcuts could do what I had in mind, that would be fine too. I just wasn't aware of a way to make a Padland shortcut. Since opening this issue a few years ago I have actually switched from using Padland to using Firefox Focus to access my etherpads, creating shortcuts within Firefox Focus and then adding them to my home screen.
