drag&drop / slider wont work then #226

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. open a video file by clicking a file-icon in nautilus
2. test the progress slider: works fine (sometimes it doesnt work already
here properly)
3. drag&drop the same file into the gnome-mplayer window
4. the slider wont work

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
i would expect that the slider works

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
GNOME MPlayer v0.9.6
vo = xv ao = alsa
Running with GIO support
on fedora core 10
From repo : rpmfusion-free-updates

Please provide any additional information below.
in the previous rpmfusion-free-updates-version it worked fine

i made the following observations:
1.
when i use the arrow keys i can jump in the movie as before...
PgUp+PgDn work fine, too...
2.
when i click on the progress bar (slider) in the gnome-mplayer window, the movie
scrolls back to the beginning (0:00:00)...

Please turn off the force cache option and see if this issue goes away.

I believe this issue was fixed in SVN when the force cache option was used
about a
week ago.

ok...
when i turn off "force cache", i can use drag&drop and the slider thingy...

but now it uses mplayer's "-nocache" option, although the file is on a local
disk...
how can we fix that?

should i just wait for rpmfusion's next update?

Using -nocache on a file on a local disk is fine, normally things work quite
well
this way.

maybe my local disks r too slow?
i use a md raid1 on 2 old PATA disks, that show up as SCSI disks to linux (i
think
the main board (asrock - ALiveDual-eSATA2) does that with several layers of disk
controller )...

Ok, couple of changes, so you will have to wait for the next release if you
can't
build the code.

1. The problems with force cache are fixed
2. When playing from local disk normally cache is not required and so it is
disabled.
However, if you have GIO enabled and it determines if the file is not on the
local
machine, caching will be enabled.

If you have SATA disks they should be plenty fast enough to play back media,
especially in a RAID configuration. It might be that you don't have enough RAM
in
your system and so you are swapping alot, but that is guess. I have an old SUN
machine that can play media (except x264 stuff) pretty reliably and it is only
140Mhz.

ok
thank u...

i'm happy with my "PgUp"+"PgDn" workaround now... :-)

i think my file system (ext3fs) doesn't do enough read ahead...

bye
