During startup, stuck on "Loading..." screen for 8 minutes. #63

When I start Slideshow, the app is stuck on the "Loading..." screen for about 8 minutes. I sent a bug report from the app and the response from Milan Fabian was that Slideshow was stuck checking whether the Android device was rooted. Using SuperSU, I checked that Slideshow was granted super user permission. As an added step, in the general settings, I also changed the default to grant access. However, I still get the long “Loading…” delay. I rebooted the Android device, checked that the SuperSU settings had not changed and tried starting Slideshow again. I still get the delay.

If I deny Slideshow root access in the SuperSU app, I still get the delay. If I turn on the notifications for Slideshow in SuperSU, then during the 8-minute “Loading…” period, I see a notification toast every 30 seconds. The content of the toast depends on whether I have the SU access for the Slideshow app set to “Prompt,” “Enable,” or “Deny.”

I suggest the following:

  1. Would it be possible for you to produce a temporary version of Slideshow, which skips the request for root access? I could test it to confirm that this is indeed the reason for the long "Loading..." screen.
  2. If the diagnosis is confirmed, then add the following checkbox to the Basic Settings; "At startup, check if the device is rooted."

Hello,

Thank you for your suggestion, we have this solution in our backlog. Unfortunately, as it apparently affects only one device model, I can't promise you any timeframe for the solution, as we currently have a lot of high-priority tasks before that.

Thank you for your response. I understand your position. I appreciate your software for its many features and will continue to use it inspite of the restart delay. If you're working on similar parts of the software, I'm still hoping you can sneak in this change sometime soon.
