This installs LuaSocket inderectly through LuaRocks. Ideally it would install it directly. Unfourtunately Ubuntu seems to have messed up their packages badly. There are at least three names for the package for different versions, and the most recent one seems to include the 5.1 library as simply a copy of the 5.2 library, rather than recompiling it for the seperate version. This should at least include an explanation of why it's installed through LuaRocks, such as the above.
I'm going to test on Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.10 as well, then update accordingly.
Any news of this?
Nothing from my side, I more or less lost interest in the whole ecosystem because $REASONS

This drove me mad as none of the packages in Ubuntu would satisfy the LuaSocket dependency. Hopefully this info saves someone else from the same headache.
