The key distinguishing feature is that these entries aren't tied to an in-world item, the player can access them from a button or tab integrated into unified_inventory or sfinv (or from a craftable item, in case those inventory mods aren't present). The ability exists to export and import these entries to book items, or to ccompass compasses or gpscompass map items for the location-based ones.
