I've remapped the touchpad button directions to WASD, and remapped back to spacebar. Unfortunately, the touchpad doesn't often seem to understand in which direction I'm pressing down in correctly, so it will frequently go left when I press right, and up/down seem to fight between going, left, right and up/down. Some games don't receive the remapped inputs entirely, or inputs sometimes hang when mouse movement type is accidentally toggled. I've tested a small bunch of games with this configuration and came back with this compatibility list:
Don't at all work:
Half-Life 1 and any mods (such as Blue Shift, Opposing Force) - Can look around but can't move.
Half-Life 2 and any mods (such as Team Fortress 2, Portal, Garry's Mod) - Ditto.
Do work, but control weirdly due to touchpad direction inaccuracy:
BeamNG.Drive
Minecraft Windows 10 Edition
Minecraft Java Edition
Work better, but are still effected by touchpad direction inaccuracy:
Terraria
Work fine/Are mouse only:
Minesweeper
OpenTTD
Bejeweled 3
I hope that these issues get resolved sooner or later, playing Minecraft or Half-Life 2 through with a GearVR controller would be a really neat challenge, right now it's almost impossible to navigate normally, compared to mouse & keyboard.
It'd be neat to have the ability to have the sensors in the controller move the mouse cursor while in the GearVR headset's holder for the controller, so one can use an gyroscope-less phone to play fps games that can render stereoscopically on their computer, but that's beside the topic of this issue.
