Is there guidance on how to incorporate this facets theme into an existing Wax site?

not yet. we didn't have time to do this. it's quite an involved process. you must replace all the gallery code, and you must also make sure that the HTML elements are the same on all places that use the Facets logic. We're getting ready to do Wax 2.0 which would be a breaking change for everything, but it will have Facets out of the box.
