Background

As an engineer I want to work as efficiently as possible to maximise my learning and productivity. (Particularly as someone with dodgy memory recall).

Hypothesis

• It is possible to overturn the old maxim "File in haste retrieve at leisure"; that is, to incorporate useful note taking into daily working behaviour in such a way that the note taking is quick, easy and ultimately useful (and findable) when rediscovered 6 months later.

Efficient note taking ideals

• [ ] Take notes quickly and easily
• [ ] Link notes by topic
• [ ] Easily find pertinent notes
• [ ] Don't spend too long
• [ ] Independent of current role

Possible tools

• Personal Google Drive plus Obsidian.
• GitHub?
• Work Google Drive - NO: No longer viable GSuite is being decommissioned
• Work Sharepoint - NO: will not have access to notes outside of work

Organisational structure

• By topic?
• By date?
• Does it matter if you can link notes easily as in Obsidian?

Personal Google Drive plus Obsidian:

• Downloading Google Desktop allows Obsidian to see your Google Drive
• You can add multiple Google Accounts - but probably not sync across them
• Sync to one Google account from multiple devices; each device must have Google Desktop and Obsidian installed.
• I can only access my notes in this Obsidian vault from the one Google account.
• Download Google Drive for Desktop
• Download Obsidian for Desktop
