Capture Problems #859

Hello,

I'm experiencing some issues with the May 3, 2024, 10:38:17 GUI release, they are as follows:

  1. During playback no image appears in the capture window, which states "no signal." Second, sometimes the timecode in the software actively counts along with the deck and other times it stays static.
  2. The only machine control functions that illicit a response from the deck is Playback, Stop, and Record. When Fast Forward or Reverse is pressed, the software indicates a command is being sent, however the deck does not respond.
  3. When I initiate a record the software asks for a location, and once selected, begins recording. However, during capture there is no indication that recording taking place. The timecode counter stays static, and graph shows no movement. When stop is pressed, the output video is not playable.

The decks I have tried are:

  1. SONY DSR-1500A: DV/DVCAM
  2. SONY DCR-TRV320: Digital 8/Hi8/8mm Camcorder
  3. SONY GV-D200: Digital 8/Hi8/8mm Portable VTR
  4. SONY HD700\1: HDV/DV Portable VTR (Set to DV mode)
  5. Canon VIXIA HV40 (no machine control functions work)

The computer I’m using is a MacPro (late 2013) running Monterey 12.7.4. To connect to the deck, I'm using an Apple Display equipped with a Firewire 800 port, which connects to the PC via Thunderbolt.

I also installed the PC GUI version on a Dell workstation running Windows 10. However, DVRescue was unable to find any VTRs and just remained in the “Scanning for DV Decks” state.

Has anyone else had these issue? If so, was it a driver issue? I attached the capture log xml converted to PDF.

Thank You,

Hi,

We're also experiencing the same issue here. Deck is Sony DSR-25, cable is 4-pin firewire 400 to 800, FW adapter, to Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. Computer is intel iMac 2019 on Ventura 13.6.7. Will be watching this thread for updates!

Hi @dmarcuswalker, could you plug in your deck and share the output of:

dvrescue --version
dvrescue --list_devices

Sure thing!

Hi, I'm having partially the same problem with a batch of tapes I'm working on. While capturing I get no feedback as far as frame, timecode, or record time which all just say N/A. Nothing in shown in the chart below. Otherwise capture is successful.

Below is a screenshot of what it looks like during capture. I also grabbed a log during a test capture, attached.

If it's relevant or helpful, here is a Drive folder also of the test .dv file created and associated logs. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZGy6OGK3-t_WsXlW7jzKI5360Jz1usJF?usp=sharing

I have been experiencing the same issue that @arnicholson described above with various tapes. It seems to be inconsistent though. Sometimes the graph and the frame#/timecode/record time are calculating/populating and other times I get the same thing as in the screenshot above. I haven't found a pattern to it though.

After doing some more testing with version 2024-07-20, it seems like the main problem for not getting any feedback from the counters is related to having the "save a log of the capture process" setting. If I change that setting to "no" then the counters and the graph behave as expected during capture. When that setting is set to "yes" then the counter and the graph do not display anything during capture.
