Unfortunately some MirageOS 3 commits are already in master, so this release would need to revert them to be installable with the current released package set. @djs55, is 0.3 still required, or should we close this PR out?

I don't think this is a big deal -- it looks like this was some bounds checks which I was going to use to remove bounds checks elsewhere, but we can always do that later.
