Piggybacking on an addiction -- Intercepting addictive and time-wasting behavior and redirecting it to a good cause

The problem: we are becoming addicted to social media and we start visiting such sites without even thinking (http://recommebdedwww.tristanharris.com/essays/)

The solution: intercepting the user attempting to go to a time-wasting website and allowing encouraging them to do something useful instead: e.g. study vocabulary, or some API documentation for programmers.

Milestones of the project:

• reverse engineer and refactor existing chrome extension and corresponding server
• generalise the extension to allow the user to be redirected to their website of choice
• write a GDPR compliant notice
• deploy in chrome extension store
• deploy with users and run user study
• analyze telemetry data and user feedback
• write up all the experience in a paper
