Interesting idea, but this seems more like a nerf than an enchancement because it could be tedious to trade books out of a villager just so that you can use this mechanic.

it is a nerf. you can get as many variant of any enchanted books you want without any real investment. just some wood for the lectern and a single villager. a trading hall then becomes a trading stall. considering the power of the enchantments and the fact you can even make compound books [ eg. unbreaking+mending] using this method -even if they are real expensive-. there needs to be a sort of balance to make the villager a bit more precious. trading with the villager until its maxxed seems like a fair price. the alternative would be limiting the level and types of enchantments depending on the level of the villager.

Basically the 'investment' price is supposed to be the cost in Emeralds, in the cost of XP Points to create the book, and then the cost of XP Points to apply the enchantments on to the tool or gear after trading. I understand that in the late game these things become easy to get, but that's up to you. The more expensive the book is the more these will cost.

This is the result of the custom trading mechanic. It's supposed to remove the need of trading halls in some ways because Librarian's become more flexible in what they can give you. However you still need a trading hall because realistically this is how you are going to get most of your enchantments anyway.

Yeah I guess you're right, because they are so flexible it means that individual villagers are less valuable. I don't like locking the mechanic to maxxed villagers. Maybe for Apprentice/Journeyman villagers instead? I will consider it as an option. Outside of enchantment books they are still kinda valuable because they can give you trades like glass, but idk. maybe they could offer more discounts or something like that.
because a more experienced librarian understands magic better.
