sometimes logging out leaves you half-logged in #252

This is one aspect of the login problems. For instance, a user complained:

I’m working through trying to build the queries and am having a lot of trouble with being 
kicked out. I can’t run anything when I’m signed in. I’ve tried running over and over and 
I can get the public version to work but can’t get the non-public facing version to work.

Crazy series of steps to reproduce:

  1. make sure to logout
  2. got to homepage
  3. click "sign in" and sign in with a bad password
  4. now sign in with your real password
  5. change url to say #demo and hit enter
  6. click "sign out"
  7. change url to say "demo"
