the CDK very helpfully mentions that it can't find the webpack file and asks you to locate one
click "choose config file" and pick the renamed webpack config file.
show the webpack console if it's not showing already,
note that it hangs with a message "Stopping..." and an endless spinning circle.
closing and re-opening the project at this point works fine.
Error
CDK hangs, and shouldn't. I assume since there's functionality and UI in there to help find the new webpack file that this is a somewhat expected event and this sequence of steps should succeed without having to close/open the CDK.

with CDK closed, rename the webpack config file.
launch CDK
open the project
