Need inbuilt dial from Gmail #3

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Login
2. Select dial from Gmail
3. Make a call

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect the call to connect, as it does from gmail

The call does not connect, instead it asks me to "Please press Call below to
connect to Google Voice"

or

it needs Gmail to be open to reroute the call

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Windows setup_20110110.exe

Please provide any additional information below.

I do not think this feature is intended, it would be of immense help if you
added this feature in a future release as I greatly desire to test such a
desirable feature and bring it to fruition

I agree that callback to gmail is nice to have. I'm not sure how to do it as
yet.
I will investigate to see if it is possible. If not I'll have to remove the
gmail entry from the list and fix it in that way.
The investigation is however is time consuming and not high on my list and so
I'm reducing priority.

This would be of titanic popularity if you did find a way to do it, there are
many people who want this but no development is going towards it.

I've found the problem and fixed it. Now, it is possible to select "Google
Talk" from the drop down list. When you initiate a call using this "dial back"
method, your Gmail google talk plugin should ring.

Marking this issue as fixed.

Which version are you using? Which OS?

The one you just now posted, and Windows 7 Ultimate as before, nothing has
changed.

I just faced this a moment ago - not just qgvdial, a lot of other things had
started hanging - so I rebooted Windows and tried again and it's working for me
again. Does a reboot fix it for you as well?

A restart resolved it, but this isn't at all what I wanted, this feature you've
put in already exists in the other programs out there, it requires you to have
gmail open in a browser to accept the call and link it up.

Which defeats the purpose of having a desktop app.

What I was suggesting is you just have the functionality right there in the
program, I can dial a number, hit call, and it uses my gtalk/google voice
number to dial out as if I was actually doing it from within the browser.

I'm guessing there's some type of grand issue that makes this difficult and I'm
oversimplifying the feature request.

Aah. Now I see what you mean. That's interesting. Given the way I do things, it
may be possible, but I can't promise anything yet. I'm re-opening this issue
and changing summary and labels to match what you actually need.

Awesome, thanks, this would be the only program on the entire net capable of
doing that.

Nice job, I just tried the new feature on my N900, and it's awesome.
But as it's mentioned, what would make this program unique is the ability to
both dial and receive the calls inside the program.

I think I read somewhere in the Maemo forum in Dial Central discussions that
this feature is not possible to be implemented, as Google has not released any
API for that.

@faraz: Yes I know that it's not possible at this moment in Maemo. But given
enough time and help from others, I might be able to figure out how to make it
work.

I want to thank you for all the improvements. It is an awesome program.

I was wondering if you had any success implementing "inbuilt dial from Gmail"
as we discussed,

Also I have some other suggestions:
- an option to change from full screen mode would be great.
- a close button, to exit.

Faraz:
@Inbuilt gmail: Initial attempts have been unsuccessful because the gmail
window isn't able to find the Googletalk plugin. The investigation continues.
@Close button: added. Press to hide. Long press to quit.
@Fullscreen mode: Probably not going to do - qgvdial has to look good on
multiple platforms. From what I've seen, the non-fullscreen mode is not pretty.
Also, most of the problems with the fullscreen mode is that no one knows how to
close the window. The close button should address that.
