Progress bar on Windows needs work

While the progress bar can be easily styled to look better on Windows the default look should be improved, specifically:

Windows XP (haha) downgrade to ascii
Windows 10, default style, the start and end chars are problematic missing glyphs look like: �

Looking better, ascii default and a few other tweaks. All I'm gonna do for now.
